Ever wonder what happened to playing in the snow? Did you or have you since you have become older, gone out in the snow, just to be out in it? Do you play in the snow with your kids and grandkids? Snow, who would have thought that as you get older, your love for snow would grow to be a hatred........Not sure if everyone feels the same way I do, but there is something about a new snow fall!!!!!! There are a couple of good things about snow, the water that it puts in the ground(much needed after the drought of summer 2012), and how beautiful it looks before it is marred with dirt, salt, foot prints, dog feet and bird shit.
When we went to bed last night it was windy, but no new snow. I got up with the dogs at about 2am to see a fog of huge snow flakes. You could barely see the car outside. It was beautiful and foreboding all at the same time. Woke up this morning to about two feet of snow on top of the barbecue on the back deck. I had to shovel snow to be able to get the door open all the way. The dogs were not happy with the deep snow. Hard to pee when your belly is in the snow. Oh well. Made a small area that they can go and do what they need to. Back in for coffee and boots.
Now there is one thing I hate to do worse than washing dishes, and that is SHOVELING SNOW. It is cold outside and your sweating. Your hands get all wet and wrinkled, your feet are cold and wet, and your nose runs uncontrollably. I loved snow when I was a kid. What happens as you get older? When your a kid, you put on your underwear, long of course, pants, snow pants, shirt, sweater, coat, hat, mitts and your off with the sled, toboggan, cardboard, or anything else that will slide and off you go. You come back red faced, wet, cold, tired and laughing. What happened to those days?
Well as you get older, you become more subdued and careful, or at least some of us do. There are still the odd adventurists that still do as they did as a kid. Most do fine, some get hurt but we all have a great time. I just wish we could go back to the days when living in the moment was all we did. Everything was so easy back then. Your biggest worry was how to explain the loss of a glove or hat at the end of the day.
Why can't we still do those kind of things? Where did our love of fun go? I just spent time tromping through the snow to get the newspaper, and was grinning all the way. Before I went out, I did just like when I was a kid. On went the thick socks, the boots, the T-shirt, sweater and long hoodie, mitts and a hat. Off I went. Found nothing in the deep snow, probably because the snow plow had just gone by and I figure the paper is buried never to be found again, or as a wet lump in the spring. Today was no mail, no paper, and the driveway is plowed in so high, it will take a lot of shovelling to get out. Oh well, it just might be good exercise for a couple of old folks that need to work out.... hahahahha.
We all love to do things. Some things are not as much fun as others. Some days are fun, others not so much. Just make sure that you wear your proper attire when the snow is rrreallyyy deep. Keep warm and try not to fall in a hole. Watch for slippery spots under the snow or you will be on your ass and people will be laughing, cause you never do that when no one is around. Go play in the snow. Have fun, enjoy yourself and be a kid no matter what your age, laugh, squeal, run, and slide. That is what is suppose to happen, "when the snow is up to your armpits."
